Hunter was a pitcher in the Athletics organization from 1965 when they were located in Kansas City until 1974. He played in six All-Star Games, winning the AL Cy Young in 1974, and leading the MLB in ERA in the same year. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1987 and the team retired his jersey on June 9, 1991
