Gibson played nine seasons with the Pittsburgh Crawfords of the Negro League. He played in eight All-Star Games, won two batting titles and Triple Crown. He hit more than 150 home runs (thought to be more than 800, but there is lack of records) and finished with a .374 batting average. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1972
